Digital Oil

ON GEMSTONES

MY ARTISTIC JOURNEY: FROM FEDOSKINO MINIATURES TO DIGITAL MASTERY

In 2016 I painted my first oil miniatures on half-gemstones. I described this unique experience showing some photographic impressions on the page "Oil Miniatures on Half-Gemstones".

After some years of experiments, I ventured into the realm of digital art, drawing inspiration from the very paintings that adorned gemstones. In the digital world, I used high-quality pictures of labradorite, which is one of my favourite stones, as the canvas for my creations. Each motif I meticulously painted atop these exquisite labradorite backgrounds was handpicked to not only emerge from the stone's surface but to do so with ethereal and captivating transparency. The result is a harmonious dance between the painted imagery and the natural beauty of the stone, an interplay that's nothing short of magical.

Absolutely unique artistic concept - stone surface as canvas, with oil paint emerging from it

My experience as a traditional artist allowed me to study the characteristics of different oil paints. Some paints are richly opaque, possessing a robust consistency that conceals all beneath its layers. Others are beautifully transparent, allowing light to gracefully pass through, revealing the artistry underneath.

In my digital endeavors, I've chosen transparent oil paints to craft a dance between the natural beauty of the stone and the strokes of my brush. This collaboration births creations that bear two signatures: that of nature, the master sculptor of the stone canvas, and mine, where my visions come to life. In each painting, you'll find a harmonious fusion of these two distinct voices, creating a unique artistic narrative that's bound to captivate and inspire.

The artworks showcased on this page are undeniably one-of-a-kind, a testament to the originality of this concept. I can proudly say that this is a path less travelled, one where I've carved a niche that is truly my own in the world of artistry. Thank you for sharing in this journey of innovation and artistic discovery.
